چکیده
Purpose: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of V. diospyroides Symington type LS root extract as a chemopreventive agent against various cancer cell lines. Methods: Acetone root extract was evaluated for in vitro cytotoxicity against KB (oral cavity cancer), MCF-7 (breast cancer), and NCI-H187 (small cell lung cancer), using Resazurin microplate assay (REMA). Toxicity against a representative normal cells, Vero (African green monkey kidney), was assessed using green fluorescence protein (GFP)-based assay. Results: V. diospyroides root extract showed significant cytotoxic effects on KB and MCF-7 cell lines in a dose-dependent manner with IC50 of 35.05 ± 1.45 and 36.63 ± 3.40 μg/mL, respectively. NCI-H187 was not significantly inhibited (≤ 19.39 % inhibition) at the concentrations tested. IC50 against Vero cells was outside the concentration range of 0.2 50 μg/mL. Conclusion: These results indicate that the root extract of V. diospyroides has in vitro cytotoxic effect on human oral cavity cancer and breast cancer cells. No toxic effect on normal cells was observed. Thus, the extract may provide bioactive substances for human cancer therapy.

Chemical Constituents from the Roots of Clausena excavata and Their Cytotoxicity
Six coumarins (1-6) and twelve alkaloids (7-18) were isolated from the roots of Clausena excavata. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods. This is the first report on the isolation of compounds 1, 7 and 17 from C. excavata. Compound 1 is also the first example of an unsymmetrical dimer coumarin isolated from Clausena species. The completed assignment of C NMR spe...

We evaluated the in vitro antiproliferative and apoptotic potential of the ethyl acetate extract (EAE) of Peltophorum africanum, a member of the family Fabaceae (Sond) in order to validate its pharmacological use. Antiproliferation of human breast (MCF-7), colon (HT-29) and cervical (HeLa) cancer cell lines by EAE was investigated using the Cell Titer-Blue viability assay and the mechanism of a...

The chemical constituents of the essential oil from the leaves of Gynura divaricata (L.) DC. were investigated by GC-FID and GC-MS. Seventeen compounds, representing 97.1 % of the chromatographical fraction of the oil, were detected. The major constituents, cubenol (65.7 %) and spathulenol (6.4 %), were isolated using column chromatography and identified by NMR and MS analysis. The antioxidant,...
متن کاملExtracts from Vatica diospyroides Type SS Fruit Show Low Dose Activity against MDA-MB-468 Breast Cancer Cell-Line via Apoptotic Action
Very strong antiproliferative action of V. diospyroides type SS fruit extracts (IC50 range of 1.60-17.45 µg/mL) in MDA-MB-468 cell-line was observed in an MTT assay. After dosing of an extract concentration at half IC50 to cell line for 24 to 72 hours, treated cells were subjected to Annexin V-FITC/PI binding assay, followed by FACS and western blot analyses. Significant apoptotic death was obs...
